It can be devastating to lose a dog. Dogs provide unconditional love. They don’t judge. They make you laugh. They’re there when you need a (furry) shoulder to cry on. The death of a dog can leave a gaping hole in your heart.

It’s hard to believe when you’re in the depths of grief, but time will make things better. But what to do to get through the toughest hours, days, weeks? Friends who haven’t suffered the loss of a dear canine companion often don’t understand what it’s like. Bosses may not empathize. How many bereaved dog lovers have heard statements like, “It’s just a dog, time to get over it!”?

In addition to Dog Heaven: Somewhere Over the Rainbow Bridge, there are many other resources out there to help. We provide a selection below. If you know of other quality resources we haven’t included, please contact us  and let us know.

Dog Heaven Facebook page - We invite you to go to the Dog Heaven Facebook page and we can use an image from the book and share your story. Show us a photo your dog. Tell us a little about him or her, and how you’re coping. We hope to build a caring online community.

The Association for Pet Loss and Bereavement - is a compassionate nonprofit organization of trained volunteers, dedicated to helping people during this very special kind of bereavement. “We are constantly improving all our services, and making them freely available on the Internet. The APLB is unique, and the only organization in the world doing all this,” according to the website, which has a vast wealth of very helpful information, and chat rooms for those who are grieving – and those who are anticipating doing so soon.
